  • Temp. Guage Question

    2 part question:
Where exactly is the sensor or whatever that measures the heat of the engine. What I mean by this is, say your guage says the engine is at 200 degrees, where is this reading coming from? Also, what is it taking the temperature from, an actual part of the engine, or the air surrounding the sensor. Sorry if this is confusing, and thanks for any help.

The Engine Coolant Temperature sensor is just under the throttle body, sticking into the lower intake manifold. It is #4 in this picture. It measures the temperature of the coolant flowing through the motor.

Note that the gauge itself is extremely innacurate. Almost to the point that you can't even trust it. Mine normally shows about 180°, even though really I'm running at almost 200° according to the sensor.
