Just the other day my DIS-4 started screwing up. I'll be driving along at any RPM and anything but closed throttle/idle and it'll act like it's removing all spark for a split second. Some times it does this is one second intervals. As soon as I plug in the bypass plug it goes away. Anyone have this problem?
I bought the DIS-4. The day i put it in, it was fine till the night. I was at the car wash and my car started to die out. Finally it shut off and wouldn't start. I then had a back fire...so i put the bypass on and it started right up. Hooked it back to the DIS-4 and wouldn't start...what the hell is going on here. 1 month has gone by and i still have the bypass on it. MSD told me that one of the coil inductors has burned through cause nothing is wrong with the box because they checked it out. So i orded new inductors and hopefully my car does fine. The inductors should be in soon.
Where are the coil inductors? It's weird that it still works just fine when I plug in the bypass plug since everything is still hooked up EXCEPT the MSD box(ie: the wiring and the coil interface moduals). What what is it they said burned through? So did you send them your MSD and they checked it out? Is it some stock component that can handle being at 12V but not at the 400+ that the MSD puts out to the primary side of the coils?
I did some more testing on mine today. If the bypass plug is in, everything is fine. If I hook the MSD back up, it seems fine until I go above about 3000-4000 rpm, then it starts erratically cutting out all spark pretty frequently even when I drop back down below 3000. Then if I idle a while it seems to be ok at low rpms, then I can replicate it screwing up if I rev it up again. Is this simular to what yours was doing? I'm about ready to send it to MSD cuz I definatly don't want to buy another one at $320...
I havn't had any problems with mine yet...
Mine is located right at the nose of my car too, water drips down on it and the only thing protecting it is a plastic bag lol. I need to fix that problem over spring break But yeah... no problems for me.

Also, as soon as I start mine up the LED flashes one flash per second, which indicates that either it's not getting one of the signals(grounds from the control modual) or a +12 is getting grounded. I checked for things getting grounded but found nothing, so unless the control modual is screwing up, but then why doesn't it happen with the bypass plug plugged in? Also, if I rev it up to around 3000-3500 and watch the LED it goes solid and turns off along with the miss. Then when I let it back down to idle it'll start flashing one flash per second again.
I also tried swapping out the coils and control module with some I had from previous ignition trouble before the MSD. It did the same thing...
Note: As with most high performance upgrades, adding a digital ignition system alone is not enough. To fully feel its benefits you will need stronger IGNITION COIL INDUCTORS, high performance wires, and good spark plugs....
Im not really too sure what they are, I havent done any research on them. Im sure if you look them up on the comp., it will show you..all I know is is that I got three of them and MSD told me they burned through so will see whenever mine come in.
Are you talking about the coils themselves?
The only things replaceable are:
-DIS-4
-the 3 MSD coil interface modules
-the 3 coils
-the ignition control module(the thing that is below the coils and coil interface modules)
-plug wires
-plugs
So what is it that you're getting replaced?
Since the coils are the only thing that are doing any inducting I'm guessing that's what you're replacing.
Are you getting MSD coils? Is that what they recommended?
Yea, MSD is sending me new coils. And yes, i sent in my msd box and they checked it over and it was fine. So im hoping by replacing the coils, everything is fine.
i dont think the stock coil like that much input lol i think its you stock coils not recharching fast and there for missing sparks, each coild fires 2x one for each cylender poer stroke, so it really fires on the power and exuast stroke for each.... lol 5200 rpm each piton fires at 43 times a second, so your plugs fire at 86 times a second

basically it fires each coild 3 times for each so really the coils are firing 6 times more then stock below 3K rpm
its spark 3 times on each cylenders power stroke, since that cylender is on the same coil as the the other cylender its sparking on it exuast stroke, lol so both plugs are firing. 3 times below 3K rpm
