yaknow, the first time it did the REP thing, i thought about those things, i had a picture covering the temp gauge ( iknow iknow ) and so i took it off and popped the hood and watched the temp and the thermo opened like it should and the fans came on properly... that was my first thought...ive had the oil changed in between the 2 occurances, so i know its not oil...i am gonna have the fuel filter changed and do all that...
it seems my perfect lil car went and got all shizzled up... lol

thanks for your suggestions.. if anything else comes up ill post...

i'm think that your MAF or map sesnor my have gone out or shorted those times or something... usally 2000 and up FI guys have this trouble cause of the MAF programing....

but if the MAP was bad it could do the same thing.

Reduced engine power would be maybe be caused by ignition stuff. the whining definatly sounds like alt, vacumm leak, or something. check your drivebelt for tightness. do this by pushing on it between the pulleys, it should be snug and tight. also i changed my belt and it really made my engine quieter. the wine was almost gone except for alternator.

other than this check the engine when its running. how does it sound? check all the stuff thoughly, and rev it a few times real good and then check it at a constant 1200rpm range. does the whin get louder?

the engine sounds normal when rev'd

                the belt is tight

this whine is only there when started and its cold and sounds "like a blower" but as soon as the car is put into gear its gone totally...

and if i start it again after ive driven the sound is not there...

someone that listened said the power steering pump could do that... (i didnt think this was related to the PS)

ive been drivin it for 30K miles since removing the cat and not a problem

i think im just gonna take it to a shop, i dont trust the dealers around here at all, they seem to be hack artists, and i used to work for a Firestone, so i wont take it there... (lol)
ugh, i wish i had a good personal mechanic

If the sound goes away when it's put in gear, I would think it's a drivetrain problem. Maybe (the same problem I had with my 91) it's torque converter. Just somethin else on the list to have checked out.
