  • My keyless entry sucks!!

    My keyless entry on my 95 has always sucked, it only works when you are ~15 ft or closer to it. Now, I have to press the thing a zillion times, withing 5 ft of the car before I get a responce, whether it is lock, unlock, or trunk.

    Do I need a new battery? How do I replace it? Should I just go to the local Pontiac dealership and have them fix it? BTW, this is the keyless entry with no alarm, just 3 buttons.

    I posted about the same problem in the stereo/electronics section yesterday. My 95 Camaro's remote sucks a big fat one :mad: . Exact same symptoms as yours. New batteries won't help. Just get an alarm or remote keyless installed at a stereo shop or local chain store. Aftermarket have a longer range and are much better!

      Try resetting it. Hold the lock and unlock buttons (on the key fob) at the same time for about 5 seconds when you are right next to your car.

      Also sounds like your contacts are dirty from pocket lint. Open it up (like you did to replace the battery) and clean when your buttons make contact.

      I think I put a Energizer lithium battery in mine (not sure about the #). To replace it there is a slot on the side (similar to a watch) to pry open with a thin tool like a knife.

        I don't think that they all just suck. I would try to replace the battery first. Because if the battery is low you would experience the same problem. All you do to replace it is take the key ring off of the key fob so that you just have the black piece and there should be a notch in the side of the key fob where you put in a screwdriver and twist to pop it open. Then you just replace the battery.

        They should sell the battery at most places including auto parts stores.

        I dunno if it's the exact same on 95's but that's how it is on my '98. Should be something similar though.

          Well the truth is GM's keyless did suck until 96 when they changed over to a better style. Nothing you can really do but live with it. I know thats not what ya want to hear but it is the truth.

            The keyless entry on my 02 sucks too. It barely reaches from my porch to the street. (About 30 feet)
