10 dollers?? where were you gooing?? The security thing is actually a resistor. Put in the right key with the right resistor, and the right amount of electricity flows through the circuit, and the car will start. Put in the right key with no resistor (or the wrong resistor) and no eletricity (or the wrong amount) flows the circuit, and the car won't start.
I paid $30 for a replacement key from the dealer. I went to two locksmiths before that, and both told me only GM dealers have access to the blank keys.<a href=\"http://www.cardomain.com/id/edogg_127\" target=\"_blank\">1999 red 38000 Camaro</a><br />Leaking rear main seal (not really a mod though)
