Ok guys i have searched for about an hr an have found a couple of threads but really didnt find a specific answer. The car runs fine, doesnt overheat. The system was flushed recently, the fans work, but the water pump does have 130K on it. Anyways the car always runs slightly below the 1/2 way mark while driving. It only goes up to the 3/4 mark while idling the the fans kick in and bring it under the 1/2 way. Im assuming this is normal and understand the gauage is usally innacurate. Just wanted to get another opinion. Thanks.

My temp gauge never goes over 210 really unless I am in heavy traffic for awhile. I put a 160 deg thermostat and have replaced the water pump twice but haven't noticed any difference with the temp gauge. If you're worried about the temp getting too high, a new water pump and thermo shouldn't cost you more than $40 and take about 30 mins to change. I just had to change my water pump today actually and that stupid intake elbow thingy. Maybe even a manaul fan switch if you are in traffic a lot??? I am not sure how much that will help though.CarDomain Page

well I figured it was normal since the 1/2 way point is 210 and the 3/4 mark is 225. The fans are set to kick in at 225 so I assume its suppose to do this.1995 3.4L M5 Camaro
Bullet Performance Exhaust, K&N FIPK, Stage 1 clutch, Short shifter, Hotchkis STB, Taylor Ignition wires, NGK spark plugs

I have read several threads here on this subject, and the concensus seems to be this is "normal".
It was never "normal" on mine until recently.
1998 camaro, 110,000 miles.
Her temp has always been rock steady at ~170 on the guage....
Now her trmp guage rises to 210+ when idleing.
Moving down the road it is just fine.
Replaced the thermostat with a 180.
Replaced the waterpump too, for good measure....
No change at all....
Both fans appear to work normally, I have seen a high and low speed on both fans.....
I don't know what to do next.....Common sense is NOT so common.....

But don't rely on the temp gauge! To really know what's going on, you need to hook a scanner up to it.Matt
