So I am finished with my rebuild I hope? I went to tun it iver for the first time and I just get a click...I think it is the starter, well I am praying that is what it is.
So I need to know what 2 wire hook to my starter motor. I have the little one but is there a ground? And were is the ground coming/routing from?

on your starter solenoid you have 2 wires. One should be kinda big, that is your b+ (battery voltage), that is your positive battery cable. It goes from the battery to the starter. You should always have battery voltage there. The second wire is a lot smaller and comes from you park\neutral safety switch. There is a yellow wire that comes down from your ignition switch into the park\neutral safety switch (that prevents you from starting your car in gear, it will only start in park or neutral) on the other side of the p\n safety switch it is purple. From the switch the purple (small wire) goes down to the starter. This wire receives voltage only when the engine is being cranked. That small wire is what turns your starter on!!! it is not a ground!!. The starter is internally grounded to the starter case, which is grounded to the engine block. So, by bolting your starter to the engine, you ground the starter. I am a mechanic for a pontiac dealership and i specialize in drivability. I am ASE certified in engine repair, electrical, and brakes. If this was my car, i would first make sure my battery is good. Not just the volts. Your battery can have 12.6 volts, but if it does not have enough cold cranking amps due possible to a bad battery cell, your car will never start. After you have established you have a good battery, continue with your diagnostic procedures. Since the starter is trying to engage, it is a good sign. I would really take a serious look at that battery...rule that out as a possibility first!!. Pull the battery and take it to go be tested at an auto parts store. You don't wanna go tearing into stuff and find out it is a battery. If the battery is bad, put a new one in and go have your alternator checked...just to be safe. Standard Gm practice. If the battery tests ok, then you need to start trouble shooting the starter circuit.
