I just enstalled a new head unit in my 98 camaro and now my amp guage is always to the right of center instead of straight up like before. Will this hurt my car? Did I do something wrong?

just means your alternator is putting ot more power.....or more power being drawn from your battery....it'll be fine as long as its not in the red your good to go ;)

So did I do something wrong with the install or is this normal?

Are you talking about the reading on an ammeter or a voltmeter?

Ammeters measure current, Voltmeters measure voltage potential.

The battery gauge in my dash is now to the right instead of centered like it was before I installed the head unit.

That is a voltage gauge, and normally it should be on the right of 13V (+2V over battery charge means its charging the battery). American alternators tend to put out a solid 13.6-14.2V under normal conditions, Japanese alternators can put out as much as 16V to quickcharge the system.

Your system appears fine, perhaps you had a poor ground and installing and fidling with the electrical system cleared that up
