  • Oil Discussion..

Well in a month or so my car should be done and fullly rebuilt pretty much all brand new internals and what not.
Now the question is what kinda oil to go with.
Now for the first couple thousand i know you wanna go with a regualar 5w30.
Now after that i hear i should put a Full Sythetic in it.Now what company should i go with since I'll want to get one company and stick with them.
What weight too you think 5w30?

Ive always heard if you put regular oil in never to use synthetic afterwards, but thats just what Ive heard. They say it clumps up or something...

Mobil 1 is by far the best and most used synthetic.

      Thats just a myth.
As long as you drain the oil out you'll be alright.
If you want to be extra safe then do it while the oil is still pretty warm and far more thin.
Then add synthetic if you want and you wotn have problems or anything.

Yea well i heard always on rebuilt motors use a regualar oil the first time. After that go a Full Syntic.

94teal is right. if you are getting the motor rebuilt and gettin all new stuff put in, start it up with 5 qts. of regular plain old oil, run it for about 10 minutes to allow stuff like the cam and what not to break in, and allow any metal to be flushed out. turn the engine off, and drain the oil completely. then put something like Mobile 1 in.

as was said, do not go back to regular oil after using full synthetic. the seals in the engine get conditioned with the additives in the synthetic oil, and using regular after that will flush the additives out of the seals, possibly causing premature wear.

i dont know if moblie one is the "best" it is really good oil but you can go with Royal Purple, dyno proven to add 3% more HP, so on 200 HP stock camaro thats 6 more ponies, but its not cheap oil...... its what im going to use in my biuld up

Yea, I'll agree with Viper.....Mobil 1 is great stuff, it's all I use in my cars.

There are pricier alternatives though. Redline and Royal Purple are both good synthetics, but they will cost you (often $7-$8 a quart).

Mobil 1 will be fine for all but the most extreme engines, just make sure you keep an eye on it, 'cos with the type of driving most of us do, even a full synthetic should be changed every 3000 miles instead of the 5k or 7k that a lot of synthetics claim.

I also use Mobil 1, I like the oil.
If you are going to be running a higher horsepower motor, you can try Kendall, you can get it on sale sometimes for about the price of synthetic. Kendall is very good...

you are supposed too use non-synthetic oil for the first 1500 miles of the motor too break it in. if you dont then the rings might not seat properly and you wont make all the power you can.

trust me, i have this call a million times a day cause i build engines.

                    Anyone know about amsoil?

I use mobil 1 right now but I am thinking about switching to amsoil. It is supposed to be way better than mobil 1 at the same price.

I need to find more info on it.

My vote goes to Mobil 1. My last car was a four-cylinder Cavalier with 293K on it when I traded it. Never burned oil, never any internal engine problems except the headgasket blew at 250K. When I took things apart the internals were spotless. Actually, when the gasket blew I drove it on the highway for 35 miles at highway speeds with a ton of coolant in the oil. Still ran great after I fixed it. That car had an awesome engine. No power whatsoever, but it was bulletproof. I use nothing but Mobil 1 in my cars and even my lawnmower.
