• Coolant amount?

Does anyone know the exact amount of coolant used when chaning it? I looked for this in the manual and couldn't find it. I searched here and couldn't find it.
    Thanks,
JAM
02 Firebird GT

Thanks! I know it is a 50/50 deal, but only 4 quarts total? It seems like there would be more.

There is more, but I'm not sure of the exact capacity cuz I've lost my owner's manual somewhere. I was curious about that myself.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to dig through my owners manual to see if I can find it. I need a close to exact amount because I want to add some Royal Purple Ice addative and you have measure it. :D

it took 4 quarts total to FILL my radiator..

then start the car.. open the bleed valve. as the water pump pumps the fluid through the car.. you can add more water. top it off.. cap it. wait till the thermostat opens so the bleed valve starts spewing out coolant, then close the bleed valve..

            done..

Ok, I found my owner's manual. The capacity is 11.4 quarts for an automatic or 11.6 quarts for manual trans.

just use an antifreeze checker. then check what temp you should be safe with. cant go wrong there.

Hey Tyler, you can wave your stupid little flag until the Titanic resurfaces, or you can look it up yourself. My owner's manual (2000 Firebird, auto trans.) says the cooling system capacity is exactly the numbers I listed above. And after the last time I flushed mine I know it holds more than 4 quarts, so I should be the one waving the flag on you.

ok.. in total defense.. the RADIATOR holds 4 quarts.. . check out install university for yourself.. actually.. i'll help you out.

I would LOVE to see you try and fit 11 quarts in the radiator.

maybe if you would learn how to read you would notice i said.. "AFTER YOU FILL THE RADIATOR.. START THE CAR, AND OPEN THE BLEED VALVE. THEN REFULL RADIATOR AS NECESSARY. WHEN THE THERMOSTAT OPENS, IT WILL PUSH ALL THE AIR OUT OF THE BLEED VALVE. THEN CAP THE RADIATOR AND CLOSE THE VALVE."

                            god damn...

and just for the record... install university used 4 quarts exactly in their radiator on their LS1.. which is slightly larger than our 3.8's radiator..

                            http://www.installuniversity.com/ins...ostat_swap.htm

go about 3/4 of the way down.. you'll find the correct answer.
