Does anybody know about a kit to convert rear drum brakes to disc?
Does anybody know about a kit to convert rear drum brakes to disc?
Yeah... my brakes started making this horrific noise today... they were fine on the way to work, I go to leave work and it sounds like my rear end is falling apart.
Anyway.
I'm preparing for the worst, guessing I'll have to replace a bunch of crap, so does anybody know a kit I can buy to convert the rear brakes to disc? I want new stuff, no junkyard parts. I just feel safer with new stuff when it comes to brakes.
can't sound worse then my rearend. my carrier is starting to go bad so it sounds like my car is a train on rails. anyway, if i don't know about a kit, but if your going to buy new just buy all the parts you need. Like just buy 2 new back rotors, 2 rear calipers, brakes, brake lines, and whatever else you need. Your probably going to be looking at about a grand in new parts if you are going that route. Maybee a little less. I must tell you though, it's not that bad of an idea to just buy a rear end out of a newer car with the rotors and calipers already attatched. Good luck
There was a guy on ebay that was selling the whole drum-to-disk kit, I think the price was around $250. Don't know about other parts of the country, but anyone here in the tri-state area can go to Bristol PA, and buy the whole rear setup from http://cgi6.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...&userid=fparts
This guy has a sh*tload of f-body's in his yard, and it'll save a ton of money on shipping costs if you pick it up from him. This is where I bought my 95 T/A rear from, and I only needed to upgrade the rotors.
Well I got it fixed.
When I got my gears put in the guy had a really hard time getting my drums off in the rear and had to spray some stuff in there to get them off.
Some of that stuff just worked its way onto my drum pad on the right side and was locking my brakes up.
My dad fixed it though and adjusted them, so I can stop smoothly now again
Thanks for the suggestions though, I think I might have to get rear disc brakes anyway now, I thought they were a lot more $$$.
Maybe I can get the kit a little cheaper from tacreations if I don't get the rotors/pads and get some more cross drilled rotors I love my front cross drilled rotors with the carbon fibre pads, they are very quiet and stop pretty good
For the 95, you can, if i am not mistaken, just bolt on the LS1 brakes to the backing plate the the drum brake is bolted onto. All you need to do is just change the parking brake/E-brake cable because it won't quite fit the same. The connectors fit the same into the calipers for the disk brakes. This coming from an F-body God named Todd. I know because i am doing that to my car, cuz drums just aren't cutting it and he is helping me.
