My power windows were working great until a couple months ago whe I was rolling down the driver side window when it just stopped completely halfway. It wouldnt go up or down and now I have to wait about five minutes for it to roll up or down again. It just stay stuck and if I keep pressing the button I can hear a buzzing sound. Has anyone else had this problem and if so anyway to fix it and how much it will cost?

Hey your window motor is a goner. Like many of us here you have a bad motor in there. If you search around, I think there's a guide somewhere on how to change it, it's not too bad. I think it took me about 2 hours, not sure, it was almost a year ago. I think it ended up costing me like $35 at Napa auto parts, cheap way to go, and the parts have lifetime warranty.

More than likely, it is a dead motor. First time it happened to me, it was the switch. Last time was the motor. Go to AutoZone and get one, its $50 and has a lifetime warranty. Installation is about $75, thats what I was quoted, although I might do it myself. Here is a site that gives you step by step instructions on how to change it: http://shbox.com/page/windowmotor.html

I tried tonight for over 3 hours to change my motor. I went to advanced auto parts and got the motor for $59 and then went home and printed out the above instructions on how to do it. It took me over 2 hours to get the door panel off and finally be able to find out where to put the new motor. But then I had no idea how to get the old one out or put the new one in. So I gave up, spent another 20-30 minutes putting everything back together. It was a whole waste of time. Now I am stuck with a $60 part and a window halfway up and its going to rain tonight. Anyone know how much Pontiac charges to put it in?

Use these two sites, between the two of them they will help you out. I just did this a couple weeks ago in my 97. It only took about 2 1/2 hours.

Edit: Only use Pontiac if you really really don't wanna do it yourself and spend $300 dollars.

My passenger side window did exactly what was said in the first post for a few months. Then it just started to work normal again.

Mine would stop like yours but after a minute or two I could get them to work again. They would only go up another inch or two then stop again. If I pulled up on the window to help it along, I could get it most of the way up before it stopped again. I've had to replace both of mine and I agree that getting the door panel and trim off is the hardest part. It took me a couple of hours the first time but I can have to whole panel of in less than 15 minutes now.

I highly recommend you give it another try. Once you've figured out how to do it once, replacing it the next time will be much easier AND faster. And if your window motor has gone out this quick, it'll probably go out several times in the future. Another way to look at is that if you buy two motors, each having a lifetime warranty, you'll never have to buy another one!!! Talk about saving money!

Its easy once you get the hanf of it, it takes me less than 5 min to take the door panel off. And about 20 min to take off the old motor and put the new motor in.

Just have patience and be carefull, support the windor regulator with a 2x4, you wouldnt want that window to come down. Or you will be saying bye bye to your hand.

I had to replace my motor and window regulator, and I took it to a autoglass shop and they installed it for $75.
