  • LIMITED SLIP TORSEN REAR?

Ok I contacted Pontiac. About a ? I had on my firebird. Its a 2001 they say I have the LIMITED SLIP TORSEN REAR. But they say the code gu6 is 3.42/LIMITED SLIP TORSEN REAR rpo code. Now what I want to know is that true? How would I go about finding out if I really have it. Cause if I don't I want to add it asap! Thanks!

First, you can find your RPO codes on the inside of the driver's side door. You probably know that.

RPO code GU6 does represent a 3.42. My RPO code is GU5 which is a 3.23 read end. But these codes just tell you the final drive ratio. I know I do not have limited slip because I do not have the additional RPO code of G80. Do you have code G80 in addition to GU6? Also, when you spin the rear wheels do both break loose or just the right side. If just the right side breaks loose then you have an open differential and not a Z-T.

In any case, that applies to my 2001 Camaro. Maybe Firebirds are different in this regard, but I
    don't think they are.

You can get a listing of all the RPO codes from thei site in Technical Database under General Specifications.

No i dont have the gu80. But Pontiac says i have the LSD. Also the spining out. I havent been able to spin out unless its wet. But when i spun out it didnt go to one side like my old blazer use to do. It just sat there. So does that help? Or is there any other way of telling? Thanks!

I wish but its hard to do a spin out in it. Its got to much traction. Mybe when i get the new exhast system and wisper lid. It should be easyer. Any other info i can look at or? To find out if it is LSD or not?

If you have RPO code Y87 - Performance Package, then you do have the Z-T rear end.

Just hold the brake down while you lay on the gas then get out and look at your burn marks when the smoke clears, or get a friend to tell you if the left is spinning too. Simple
