Cool thanks for telling me, but are you sure its for a '98? I searched by the part # you gave me, but it doesn't say what year it's for. When I called chevy and pontiac here in town, they told me they dont sell any locking ones for my car, and that the '98 fbod used a different cap than the 93-97 fbod, and the 99+ fbods...Why, I dont know  .
EDIT: D'oh, I just saw you had a '98 also, so I'm guessing it is for the 98. Thanks.

Well, I actually just ordered it from gmpd yesterday. The website I got the number from said it was for all 4th gen f-bodys. I would find it hard to imagine that 1998 had a different cap than any other year, but who knows what GM did. When it arrives, I will let you know if it fits. However, I have no doubt that it will.

There is a mechanism that will set the SES light if you forget to put the gas cap back on. The cap you bought must have had a different design than the OEM GM one and for whatever reason didn't trip the sensor that says the cap is on.

For what its worth, I had a locking cap from an autoparts store for two years. They are not made as well as the GM parts. The seals on the cap cracked and it wouldn't hold pressure. During a state inspection where they pressure test the cap, it failed miserably. I went home and picked up my original cap, which was about seven years old at the time, and it held 20 psi over the required amount. So, if you have a similar test it would be a good idea to atleast keep the old cap to use for that.
