• Gauge Cluster Speedo

I have Z28 gauges in my car and I am looking to find out how fast I am really going. I am wondering if the speed sensor from the z28 auto and the v6 auto are the same.. Any thoughts would help.

I just put one in my car (1995 v6 with Z28 instrument cluster)..if you know what you are doing you can change a resister on the tach part of the circuit board and it will be right. You better be good a soldering though cause you can screw it up in a hurry. If you wanna do it, (and you assume liability i might add!) you get the boards side by side..write on them which is which..and near the bottom of the tach there is a resister..the v8 has a slightly smaller one than the 6....remove it and solder it into the same position on the 8 cylinder tach and problem should be solved. Just have someone that knows what they are doing swap the resistors cause it could cost you 2 instrument clusters if you screw up.

My tach works fine(off about 100rpm..thats just cause my needle putting on wasnt perfect)

speedometer and other gauges are flawless.

Ok I Bought the car with white face gauges in it they just put them in and it still has everything v6. Ok if the resistor thing works still what size resistor do I need to put in it. Thanks a lot .

So you have a v6 cluster with v8 overlays? If this is the case, youll have to get a z28 cluster to make it work right. My resistor swapping only works on tachometers. I bought my 150mph instrument cluster for $37 off ebay. If you try a salvage yard Im sure you wont have any trouble finding one.
If you are auto you actully dont have to fix the tach...only off 25% but who cares if you arent shifting.

Oh yeah, the VSS is the same. The difference is in the speedometer itself. When I put my 150mph cluster in the speedometer worked fine from the beginning (it will get the correct signal from VSS).

So what you are telling me is that i have to get a whole new instrument cluster to fix the problem and there is no easy way around it.
Also I am wanting to know how to take that worthless speed sensor off.
