• is it possible to have the hatch pop open?

Well, yesterday I went to the mall with a couple of my friends. On my way out one of my friends (owns an fbody too) says dude your hatch is open. I figure its just the dark lighting and black panel giving it the appearance that its open, but lo and behold it was open. i mustve hit the button on the remote when i crawled out of the car.

so basically, when i hit the button to open the hatch it barely pops up, and it looks like its closed. this is a big problem if i accidentally hit the button.

is there any way that i can make the hatch open more visibly so i dont have to develop ocd and check the hatch every time i get in/out of the car?

youd have to get some pretty strong hatch struts. i dont know where youd find struts that strong, but i bet you could. there are other ways, but they would be more work than their worth.

the only thing I can say is to check it when you walk by.

I know how you feel, i drive around with my hatch open, and my lights kept comming off and on, i thought i had a short somewhere, i had no idea... and i found out the hatch was poping open everytime i hit a bump... kinda embarassing.

edit** or you might be able to rig something up with the switch that turns the lights on when your hatch opens (like make it VERY sensitive).

The design of the trunk will not allow you to get it up with just strong struts no mater how strong because they are pointing down not up, you would have to mount esxuators(sorry no idea how to spell this ) if you want it to go up, but all you have to do is disconnect your button and use the one an the remote

the one on the remote is my problem

i grab my keys and i accidentally hit it. its not that easy to accidentally hit the button in the car, since its in the glove box.

i could probably rig up something with a button and a light or sound that would go off if the button isnt being pressed. problem is water likes to run just about everywhere around the hatch.

ah well ill see what i can come up with.

On my 99 bird, there is a light on the dash that lets you know if the hatch is open. you dont have to get OCD about it.

i saw that install university page, i figured "shoots up into the air" is a huge overstatement, but i guess its worth a shot.

Yup, I used the installuniversity fix to solve the half-popped issue and it has worked wonders.
