  • (auto) car is having trouble starting b/c 2nd gear start button keeps coming on

for the past week my car has had trouble starting. i just replaced the alternator and starter w/in the past 2 months and the battery checked out fine. when i turn the key it won't turn over and then it usually backfires when i let off. usually after the 2nd time it starts with a little bit of trouble. i notice once the car is running the 2nd gear start button is on, but i didn't turn it on. this was happening everytime i started the car and i was very careful not to hit the button by accident and it still came on. for the past 2 days i've been hitting the button before i turn the key and the car starts up fine. why would my car try to start w/ the 2nd gear start button on when i know i didn't hit it? any ideas?

Hmm....well all I can think of is that it's some sort of electrical problem and it's having your car start in second gear rather than in neutral. Might want to get a diagnostic done - I'm not sure on what though lol.

But here's something you can do. Reset the computer in the car. It might help. Just disconnect your negative battery cable from the battery for about a minute just to be sure. Then reconnect it and see if that helps.

Try disconnecting the SGS connector from the switch. It's possible your SGS switch is bad.
