• Overheating [Non-Camaro]

I have a Subaru that I can drive around in town and it's fine. I take it on the highway and it's fine. I exit off the highway and within' 5 minutes the temperature climbs rapidly. The coolant is forced out of the radiator into the expansion tank. The fans are running and the heater is blowing hot air. Still temp gauge is maxed out. Shut it off and let it cool...

I have changed the coolant, t-stat & gasket, hoses and radiator cap. The water pump was changed about 6 months ago, so I am thinking that's OK. Still same scenario...

Possible clogged radiator? I don't think it's the heater core because it's blowing hot air.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

but it could be a clogged radiator...ever have a radiator service done on it?

No, traded the Camaro in on the Xtreme

      I was thinking radiator also.

Only service is the stuff I have done, flush and refill.

      Thanks

Before you get a new radiator, you may need to make sure that you don't have any air trapped in the system. Expanding air will force coolant through the overflow.

I bet you are getting hot spots in the car. my guess is that you have air trapped inside the coolant system somewhere that is causing certain parts to heat up a ton. The other thing to do is get a pressure test.

I did the the factory bleed air procedure. Warm up with radiator cap off, bleed valve open until coolant flows from bleed valve.

I thought air too, but then I would get heat from the heater.

New radiator is on the way. $134 from Radiatorbarn.com brand new, lifetime warranty.

Every where else they want $250-300!

            Thanks

I am not sure what you mean by that. You would get heat from the heater either way, air or not.

My understanding of the system is that if there was blockage (in the heater core) or air in the system the heater core would not be operating "100%" (ie. luke warm).
