need help with clutch replacement

I'm considering replaceing my clutch myself. Is there anyone out there who has done this and has some good advice?

I have done it before on quite a few cars that I've owned. If you don't have any automotive experience or tools, then I'd suggest having someone else doing it for you. There really isn't much to it for those who replaced clutches before, it's just unbolt - replace - bolt back up (as is basically most replacement parts). But there is alot in between that gets to be a real pain in the anatomy, like getting the console and shifter apart so you can drop the trans, trans bolts, having the trans drop on your chest when not expecting it (...priceless), getting gear oil on a shirt and never being able to get that smell out no matter how many times it gets washed, re-aligning the clutch and pressure plate, etc.

In the process of doing it on dad's 97 S-10. It's been very aggrivating. Lot's and lots of work involved. If you have any doubts at all, just save yourself the time and effort, have somebody else do it. If you really wanna try it, then be prepared to lose the better part of a day if you're lucky.

Thanks for the input! It's going to cost $620 to have a shop do it. Time to get greasy!
