• What do I do?

I brought my car to the dealer (ext. warranty) and I found out that cylinder 1 and 4 had dead coils (covered...phew) but on cylinder 4 the plug is fouled and the wire is not conducting any electricity. I asked how much they wanted for that and it was like $7.50 for one plug and some more outlandish pricing for the rest of the 1 plug/1 wire change.

I'm thinking of putting on A/C Delco Rapidfires with whatever decent wires I can find locally...HOWEVER I CANNOT install myself so what should I expect to pay parts/labor for a place like pep boys or some other reputible repair place to do this job?

edit: Dealer IS NOT touching the plug/wire because I don't want to get ripped off for that. I'm doing this elsewhere...if you did not realize that was my intent to begin with.

Just out of curiousity, why can't you change them? I know the dealer will rape you for that because they are a ***** to get at. Pep boys will be cheaper, like maybe 30-40% difference compared to the dealer.

I live on campus

1. no work area
2. no tools
3. no time (hard classes)
4. I know what it entails but I have never done it...I'm not experimenting now

Word of advice: Do NOT go to pepboys. They'l probably overcharge you for labor. I've taken my car there twice to get the spark plugs and wires installed, and they ended up giving me a cracked spark plug. When I went back to get it fixed, they then ended up giving me a faulty wire.

Try going to those local autp repair shops. they'll probably charge you 30 to 40 bucks the most.

Hey, it isn't that tough to change the plugs and wires bro. All I did was follow the wires to the spark plugs, took them off one by one, installed new ones, done. Plus, you get the satisfaction of working on your car.

Question for ya. What year is your car? I'm pretty sure that the difficulty level drops off when you get to the 2000 model year cars. Tubular Manifolds. That leaves us pre-2000 drivers with a more difficult task. My first attempt took me 3.5 hours, give or take.

My car is a 94, and well... ya, it took me a couple of hours to install. It took me long mostly because of that freaking spark plug located at the bottom of the car. But at least I know how to do it, which can saves me some cash.

found someone in my local car club to do it for $20 assuming I bring the plugs/wires. I think I'll do that. :D

The only real PITA plugs are the rear two on the passenger side... best reached from under the car, but all you need is a jack a 3" extension and a spark plug socket.
