  • New Rotors, have a problem...pic's inside.

    I bought new rotors and pad's for the front. They are cross drilled and slotted, they look great expect for one thing that's very annoying. It looks like rust on the rotor and it isn't very appealing. It started happening a couple days after I put them on. How do I get rid of that and be sure it doesn't come back?       If you go that route, make sure you sand the rust off or kill it some other way. No better way to bring rust back than to trap it under a few coats of paint.

      What you are seeing is normal with brakes. I know it doesn't look appealing, but that happens with all rotor surfaces, and if you let the car sit the pad contact area will start to develop rust on it too.

      If it bothers you that much to want to paint it, get the rust off and also get a high temp paint. Mask off the pad contact area and spray away as was stated above.

        Where did u get those suspension tech springs? Looks badass, I need to drop mine too... how much were springs? Did you change out shocks too or left them stock?

          Thanks for the reply guys, I will sand it off and paint it a grey color or silver. I really don't want to contrast it that much.

          In regards to the springs, I got them from a parts shop here in Vancouver BC. I paid 179.00 canadian for them and install was $110.00. I kept the stock springs and shocks, my ride quality didn't suffer at all.

            Any specific grit type of sandpaper to use? How much should I sand it, sorry for the stupid questions.

                Hit it with a stiff wire brush first to take off the heavy stuff, then start in with some medium grit sandpaper.

                Or, if you have the stuff, put a wire wheel on a drill and knock it off that way.

                  Just curious...where did you get the rotors from and how much were they?

                  Also where did you get the Y2K wheels from and what sizes are they. How much were they shipped?

                    Rotors I got from a local place, my dad knows the manager so I got them for 50 bucks canadian each :D

                    The rims I bought off of ebay for 899US brand new. Shipping was 80 dollars. They are 18x9.5

                        Most rotors come with a cadmium plating now...
                        Mine have them on there, it prevents rust outside of the brake contact area.

                        But like these gentlemen said, clean it up really well and paint it and you won't have anymore problems.
