  • 5 Quarts Questions (Oversized Filter)...

If you use an oversized filter are you putting all 5 quarts in or holding back a little?

Does using a larger filter make the oil pump work harder?

Is the built-in bypass valve on the filter the same (oversized vs. oem)?

Anyone had a negative experience going to the oversized filter?

    Thanks

    All 5.
    No.
    Yes.
    No.
    :D

Only reason I went back to OEM size filters was because my wife's S10 uses the same filter and same amount of oil. 9 quarts each oil change! ;)

I have the oversized one on (pf52??) right now. Not because I wanted the extra half a quart in there or so much for having more oil in the filter at ocne (I'd personally rather have it in my motor than in the filter anwyay). ratehr, I just hated having that half a quart lying around for 3 months. If not for that reason, I wouldn't have done it. I've never seen it justified or shown to have ANY horsepower gains or added protection either. But do as you like.
