The 3.8 engine is like the red-headed step child to computer performance chip companies. No-one wants to make anything for it. Basically, we are SOL

No programmer will work with the 98 V6 PCM. If you want any work done it will have to be custom or if you just want performance you can use a Jet Chip.

You would want the Stage 2 chip..it's for upgraded intake and exhaust.

Why is the 3800 Series II such a bastard in the aftermarket industry? I think they would make a crap load of money if they managed to make an effective upgrade unit. But what do I know I'm just an F-body fan wanting to mod his car with a little spending $.

Probably because there aren't too many 3800's out there, and GM stopped making them. Aftermarket companies will make some money for awhile, then have tons of parts lying around without customers buying them.

              "Thank you GM!"

I disagree, there are tons of 3800's 96-present out on the road in most of GM's large/mid-size vehicles(lumna, montes, camaro's, grand prixs, impalas, bonnevilles, intrigues, minivans such as older transports, le sabres, park aves, regals, rivieras, firebirds, and older olds 88's 98's, etc). Everything from chevrolet to buick. I think it may be because of the refinement of the motor that may not allow for much altering in our ECM's. It sucks though because it seems like a lot of power is really untapped in our motors.

I believe its because GM software engineers decided to make it as hard as possible to understand and rewrite the ECM code as possible. I have heard from many people that it may be the hardest code to figure out of any late model car or truck.

I'm not sure if that impresses me because of the sophistication or its discouraging because the wrote some crap. I've heard that BMW's are equally complex in code. Either way it sucks for aftermarket tuners and owners!
