I don't know if anyone can help me or not, but my beater car is a 96 Accent with 132,000 miles. The only thing I have had to replace on it is the starter, it been a great little (cheap) car. But the other night I was going home and at stop lights the car had no power from a start, it would barely move for about 5-10 seconds, after the third time the check engine light came on. It got me home, but it was late so I went to bed. The next morning the light was still on, but the problem went away. I started to go to Auto Zone to have the code read, but about 5 mile into the trip the light went off. The car is running pretty good now, but I still have a 1-3 second loss of power from a start. Anyone have an idea on this?

wont cost you much money if its not it, but try throwing a new fuel filter on. sounds like some kind of fuel problem.

Its funny you said that, 1st thing I did. It did not help. And yes it's a Hyundai, but I need it to last one more winter.

        Thanks for the help.

Get the code scanned. Even if the light goes off, the code is still in the memory.

The MIL went off because it did not reoccur. If it does it will go back on. '96 is ODBII. Might even have freeze frame data stored.

Was it a flashing check engine light (MIL)? Flashing represents misfire.
