How hard is this to install on a 3.8L? Would it be better to have someone do it?

It takes ~20hrs if you have airtools and know what you're doing.
It isn't a bad idea to have someone else do it depending on your situation.

I wouldn't say 20+, but I would book a solid weekend for it. Just be methodical and remember where things go. Taking the front engine cover and crank pulleys off is very time consuming. I'd say about 10 hours of solid labor.www.fullthrottlev6.com
www.chitownracing.com

Well, it took me about 22 hours to replace a timing chain in my '84 305 knowing nothing about it... I'd assume it would take more time in our 3.8's considering the increased complexity of the L36 and the accuracy required to align a cam.
If I were to install a cam (which I plan to), I'd do it myself and I would also set aside 3 solid days to do it (in my driveway).Black \'97 Camaro RS See Pics 3.8L, 5 Spd, Disc Rear, Hurst short shifter, MAF Screen Removed, RK Sport Headers, 3\" Cat, 3\" FM American Thunder Catback, Compcams .512/.507, (2x)275/40/17 Khumo 712(front) (2x)285/40/17 Good Year F1 GS-D3 (back).

Wow, I didn't think it was that long :eek: :eek:
Also, can you please tell me if I will need computer work after this is installed? I have been told both ways. That it will be fine, and also that it will be hard to keep running without PCM work?1998 Firebird w/ LS1 & A Few Mods

Pictures-->www.fad2blk.smugmug.com

Depends on the cam. Mild ones will work without reprogramming, but a crazy one will need reprogramming to run properly.Matt

if you know what you're doing and can plan it out...i'd say 4-6 hrs..
u have to take out the radiator, which means draining stuff and filling stuff. i'd say most of the time would be spent on prep and finishing..not the actual cam part.1998 Chevrolet Camaro L36 M5
1982 Toyota Celica Supra 7MGTE project car - FOR SALE

\"I find the most sensual part of the woman is the boobies.\" - Zap Brannigan

What type of cam would you suggest for mine? I want something aggressive, but not to aggressive. I plan on getting the PCM worked on anyways, just didn't want to do it this soon.1998 Firebird w/ LS1 & A Few Mods

Pictures-->www.fad2blk.smugmug.com

V6 Aftermarket Cam Specs
You can look in there to see the specs on a lot of aftermarket cams people have ran/are running. Also, even if the cam can still run with the stock programming, if you were to get the pcm reprogrammed it'd give you for more horsepower since the car is tuned for that specific cam.
I thought someone posted an install guide for a cam somewhere awhile ago?? I've been searching a few things on cams lately too because I'm wanting to do a big mod or power adder to my car in the near future also. If you come across a guide, post the link please

Also try searching in Advanced Tech. There's been much talk about all the parts needed and different designs.Matt
