ok....im goin down the highway at around 55 in 4th gear in a 97 3.8 A4. I slowly get on the throttle and the car shutters. I get a small amount of shake in the steering wheel but it hesitates to accelerate unless i hit it. If I hit it then it downshifts and accelerates normally. Transmission maybe...misfire..est. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you throwing any codes? That would be the biggest help. With a problem like this, always check your plugs/wires first. But if it downshifts and goes back to being normal.. hmm... I'm really not thinking it's your transmission.
