Trick to Stand Still Burnout

I've been trying to get down a stand still burnout in my 5 speed firebird, dropping the clutch at around 4000-5000 rpms and it always wants to move forward while burning out . I've seen a v6 firebird do one and I was wondering if there is a trick to doing stand still burnouts?

try to drop it from a little higher, that should do the trick. With your next car, try a line lock.

Are you holding your brakes after you drop the clutch? From your post I can't figure out if your brakes aren't holding you in place or if you are just dropping the clutch and not hitting the brakes.

yeah I you need to lightly hold the brake pedal down, it's not exactly good for the rear brakes but the extra front bias means so long as you don't mash the brake hard you won't be applying much pressure to the rear.

You should not have to go above 4,ooo. I can do a burn out droping the clutch at 4K and lightly holding the brakes with 275/40-17's and limited slip, and when it starts to spin good you will have to let off the gas pedal some unless you are holding the brakes to hard.

I only drop the clutch at 2500 rpm and my tires start spinning like crazy and i only have a 3.4L. Thats wierd.

I thought I might have to tap the brakes, I tried it the other night and when i hit the brakes my tires stopped spinning completlly... I must have tapped them to hard. Its difficult to lightly push the brakes right after dropping the clutch, but i will try again tonight. Thanks for the info.

I'm convinced i can't do a stand still in my car, i tried about 5 times lightly holding the brake, it started burning out going sideways but i was still going forward. Any ideas?

I've got a question that could be along the lines of this topic...

Will a bad clutch not "grab" the driveshaft when trying to do a burnout and just spin, or is that another problem? It seems whenever I drop the clutch my RPMs go up but my tires don't spin, they move slowly. I then shift it into 2nd and it seems the clutch isn't grabbing. So I hold it in and let it back out and it grabs 2nd. Is my clutch almost gone?

its getting there and each time you do that you make it worse.

Okay forget i ever doubted the firebird could do a standstill. It was raining so i took my car back out and I got my tires spinning at about 4000 rpms from a stop, i started moving forward so i started to lightly push the brake pedal and my car started slowing down, so then i pushed down harder and the car came to a complete stop and while i was holding the brake i was able to spin the tires between 2000-5000 rpms! I stopped when i saw the tires smoking.... it was awesome thanks for the help guys

Rev to about 5. Drop the clutch completely, switch foot to brake (slightly, not to much) and feather the brake to keep the tires going.


Simple way for a 5 speed burn out.

I haven't done it for about a month, until today. I tried launching my car while racing my friend, but instead the above happened. I usually wait until I feel the clutch grab, then floor it. Nevertheless, I lost to a Lumina [img]tongue.gif[/img] .
