  • Unusual sound over bump

Every time i go over a large bump I can hear & feel something shifting below my car, I am not sure what it is or if this is normal... it is pretty loud, doesn't sound like anything on the interior of my car. The only thing that happened recently was my car bottomed out going over a large speed bump(think it hit the exhaust)... Maybe I knocked something loose? Any ideas?

Im having a similar problem, never bottomed out tho. I feel something under my feet knock on the bottom, its a thud thud thud type of feeling/sound, its not extremely hard tho but me and or my passengers can feel it over bumps.

    Anyone have ideas for us?

I have this problem as well. It must be pretty common. Is it a sort of hollow sound - like someone knocking on an empty coffee can?

my camaro does it.. its the axle housing hitting the frame.... my bump stops have rotted off and one of my rear spring insilaters are collapsed thus metal hitting metal, and the rear of the car sits sideways :/
it'll get fixed when I overhaul the car in the spring :D

Sounds like a tranny mount to me as well. Check it out first.

I agree with Fred.. I just read on a website the signs of a tranny mount wearing out and it seems to be a perfect match.. Suppsoed to be only a 10-25 minute fix... visit this website to see step by step instructions on how to replace the tranny mount

I will let every one know after I replace mine if that was indeed the problem.
                  Thanks

well, this may or may not be the problem, but if the bump is coming from one of the wheels it is almost always a swaybar link. especially if you take a lotta hard turns.(hehe) just a thought, those bumps are reletivly common

its easy to determine if its the tranny mount. take it off and see if theres a tear in it. i wouldnt think it would only be on bumps if it were the the mount. you should also get it on hard shifting.

haha in that case i would say its a safe bet its not the swaybar links
