  • Parking Brake Adjustment

Does anyone know how to adjust the parking brake on a 01 firebird? everytime i pull the parking brake, the handle is almost vertical for the brakes to actually hold.

mine is very moody so i would like to know as well. sometimes i pull it and it works fine, and other times i pull it and it'll go completely vertical and not do a damn thing

well, since i dont know what car you have, if you have rear drum brakes, they self adjust when you brake in reverse.

he has a 2001 firebird. going backward will not work with his ABS disk brakes.

the 4 wheel disk brakes are self adjusting. owners manual says to 'brake hard' (while going forward) once or twice to periodicaly adjust the disk brakes.
(this is the same for many 4 wheel disk brake cars)

as far as adjusting the E brake....i know that under the car (below the back seat) is where the e brake cable has a conection to the cable assembly of the axle. it might be there. that connection might have a swivle adjustment. but that is what you are looking for...look under the car and follow the e brake cable...look for an adjusting point. hope this helps.

            i misplaced my haynes manual.
