My car was having problems a couple times of not wanting to start after driving a few miles, stopping, and trying to start again. It cranked right up but in 2 seconds it was idling really low and making sputtering, air sucking noises, and the car would shut off regardless of how much I tried to throttle it.
My mechanic said it is most likely 95% sure the fuel pump. So we put a new one on since the car has 90k miles anyway. Had to lift the back end of the car, take off the exhaust from behind the cat, drop the fuel tank too. The pump is inside the tank as part of a whole assembly. Kind of a bytch to get to but not too hard of a job.
Car actually runs better now, seems like it freed up a little power even. I bought a stock pump from autozone that is meant for a 95 3.8, even though mine's a 97. The one for a 97 you have to buy the whole assembly and not just the pump.
Anyway, hopefully won't have the starting problem anymore.
