  • Car is Shutting Off While Driving!!

Hey guys. Ive come across a problem with my 3rd gen 1990 firebird 3.1. Every once and a while my car stalled out when i put it in drive or reverse and ive had to restart it. This is at normal driving temperature. But recently it shut off one night while driving. It came to a rolling stop, and i got to restart it. But now its not even starting. At first i though electrical, but now i think fuel. I just wanted to know if anyone else has experinced this problem. Thank You

Replace your fuel filter if you haven't done so in awhile.

      Try a fuel pressure gauge

Dude. i had the same problem with my 89er. Check for spark. your ignition coil could be going out. mine did the same exact thing. Check your distributor compents, and plugs. definalty check ur sparks .

I tested the with gauges; fuel gauge= good pressure, no backed up lines. Good compression, good spark. Im seriously thinking maybe the EGR system or extremely faulty exhaust?

If fuel and spark are good, it's probably MAF, causes a lean condition and stalling. Will usually throw a code 44. Have you gotten any SES lights? If so, done the paper clip trick to read the code?

Seems you have an intermittent battery connection which will also cause this shut-off condition. A vehicle in motion with a loose connection will play games with your head.
Recheck, tighten terminals & clean any signs of corrosion.
Happened to me while I was driving my '91. I hope that's your problem.
