  • Need a VIN from a 98 with a Y87 package.

My 98 Auto is getting some 3.42's put in. You can't manually change the gear ratio on the 98's with HPTuners. Have to do it with a VIN. Anyone got one, please let me know.

No this won't hurt your car.

Are you sure about that? That doesn't sound right.

Yes, the 99+'s you can change, but the 98's and 97's you can't change. The gear ratio is locked out.

      It's also in their manual....

You can do a search on ebay for 1998 camaros. The listings have vin numbers. Problem may be finding a Y87...but you can always ask the seller.
Yes, I know \"Artic\" should be spelled \"Arctic\". Can any of the mods change this?

That's me. Is this going to do anything to any kind of carfax reports or anything?

I don't think changing the VIN by itself will give you the correct gear ratio. VINs don't contain any information on what gears are installed. I think it's just that you would tell the dealer what VIN you want, and they'd look up what should be programed based on that VIN.

Could be wrong, but that's how I understand it.

^ I agree. VIN tells them which flash file you need.

</font>[/QUOTE]Oh Jesus Christ.... It helps if I read the FULL manual. On the speedometer screen for the V6's you take the tire size (in inches) and divide it by the gear ratio.
I kept looking at the post 1999 v8 sections where they can input their tire size AND their gear ratio.

Damn I feel really stupid right now.
