Have a problem with my passenger side head light. When i turn my lights off or lock my car, the lights go up and then down and the passenger side headlights makes a horrible like buzzing noise. It sounds like to me that the motor keeps running while the headlight is down. Any ideas what could be wrong here?

I take it you have a firebird. I tried to help jamie (another member from this board) with the same problem. It is very notorious. We took the bracket off the light and rotated the motor and reattatched it but it only reversed the problem. Instead of on the down end it happened when you put the lights up. I think the gears inside the motor go bad. Somebody with a firebird probably knows where to get a rebuild kit. But I think jamie ended up buying a whole motor. HOpe I could help.

he sells brass gears if you think you can replace them yourself. Still kinda pricey, but definately less than a new motor that will wear out again anyway. Before buying these tho, take the arm off of the motor shaft, turn the manual knob until the shaft makes a 180 degree rotation, then put the arm back on and try it. I say 50/50 chance this will work. What it does is position the plastic gear inside to use the opposite half of the gear which has never been used before, unless somebody has already done this fix. Give it a try, nothing to lose.1995 Firebird 3.4L
My Site

I just finished rebuilding the headlights on my '91 bird this afternoon, when will GM learn that if the design doesn't work well for 5-6 years, it's not gonna work for the next 10... One more reason my next f-body will be a camaro.
