  • Engine revs itself after starting?

First I drive the car untill its fully warmed up. Then I let it sit for a little and it cools down. I get in and turn the key, (the temp is at 170 usually when this happens) I start the car, it idles for a split second at 500 and it then revs itself to about 2000(usually in between 1500-2000). What could cause this. The spark plugs, wires and fuel filter are brand new.

As long as it only happens under a certain condition...i wouldnt be worried. If its an any-day, any-time, anywhere thing...then i would be scurred.

Mine does it every once in a while. I heard that it's nothing to lose sleep over.

that was one of the symptons that i was just having..turned out to be my mass air flow sensor..i have a brand new one on the way..i unplugged the MAF and stripped the 102 code out with HP Tuners to run the car in speed density mode until it gets here..now it runs a TON better

Try removing the IAC and cleaning it out, buy a gasket and remove the throttle body and give it a good cleaning. The problem is occurs from a small instant vacuum leak. Make sure that all tubes and hoses are good and installed correctly. The slightest leak will cause that rev until the PCM corrects for it.
