  • revs climb by 300rpms when i tap the gas *update, of sorts*

is this a problem that is fixed by cleaning a sensor (IAC?)

anyways, if i tap the gas, to increase the revs for a shift (or whatever), i'm just talking a 500 rpm increase tap... the revs go up, but then will climb about 300 rpms higher, by itself (i've finshed the 'throttle tap')...

only reason i ask, is that this doesn't make logical sense why this is happening...

    any help = greatly appreciated.

EDIT: is it possible that seafoam could have done this, i'm starting to think that it all happened after the last time i used seafoam????

Mine did the same exact thing when the IAC went bad. Autozone has a replacement IAC for about $30.

thanks, i'll look at cleaning it first, then see whats up...

on 2 side notes... was your idle still normal? mine is very smooth..

and 2nd, i've got a stripped bolt that holds the IAC into place.. how would i go abouts getting it out?? (its really small, if any of you rememeber)

well, just cleaned the IAC (and broke off the bad bolt :D ).. seems, initially to have fixed it, i hope that was my prob

also, would this have slightly effected my fuel economy? i'm talking 50-100kms per tank worse than usual?

i may have been a little premature...

seems as though my problem hasn't gone...
would a dirty throttle body be the cause of this (hasn't been cleaned in 50k kms)???

pcv leak? crankcase ventilation system or the wire to control the throttle body is stuck, just giving you some ideas.

i recently changed teh pcv valve, and the cover's back on tight... the old one wasn't even 'broken', but i was doing a tune up...

everything else seems to work ok on the car...

i should add.. this problem only seems to happen when i'm moving in the car, i go into neutral (or clutch on the floor), then i rev it to match revs...
when i'm stopped, doing it, its fine, all that happens is sometimes the revs fall off to about 500 rpms, before coming back up to 900rpms at idle..

Yes, my idle was very smooth when the IAC went bad. It would only rev up by itself when I was moving and tapped the gas, not in park.
If the bolt is stripped or broke, you'll need to re-tap and thread it.

any who, if anyone has any other ideas, lay them on me, i reallly want this fixed... i think i'll try resetting the computer (take of the neg. battery terminal), and clean the throttle body.. other than that, i'm all out of ideas
