I have a 96 camaro for some reason it won't start. i have had to push start it for awhile now but not even that will work now. i thought it was the battery or starter but no all is good there battery has 12.6 volts and starter is good. so this is what's going on i open the door light is on so i press on the brake and it turns off. when i try to start the car it clicks then it makes a noise like when you have the key in with the door open but it's faster and loader. radio works but takes time to start and also to get the sound to the speakers.

so what could this be? i was thinking about wiring is fried?

have you load tested the battery? just because it says 12.6 sitting thre doesn't mean it wont drop to 2v or even 0 when being cranked.

you can depress the brake pedal and the dome light goes off? that's a little...unusual.

kind of sounds like a bad ground or short that's pulling off your battery.

batt shouldn't drop below 10.5volts iirc.

and the dome lights cutitng off when the brake is applied means the batt aint gots the juice. do teh brake lights even come on?

go to a local autozone or advanced and get them to load test your battery.. sounds like thats the problem to me at least... and battery voltage will drop according to hw many cold cranking amps you have. our cars take a 75 series battery. wiht 500 cca, you will see about 10.0V under load, but no less if the battery is good. if you have 700 cca, expect it to drop no less than 10.75 - 11.0 V under load.

might want to check on your batt calbes too. they corrode inside teh insulation.

another update- didn't have time to work on the car today but it didn't want to start by turning the key so push started it. later that night i tired the key again heared some clicking but it started up. just a few minutes ago went out side and started it twice with the key. so what now? i don't think it's the starter but i'll find out tomorrow i'll take it out and take it to autozone to get it checked then i'll go from there.

have them check your starting& charging systemfor free. also, I still think there might be an issue w/the cables.
