Ashtray sensor?

If you look in the ashtray you will see a little hole in the corner. WHen you remove the ashtray you see a sensor or something hanging there with wires attached to it. What is it and what does it do.

its just a covered light. I believe the cover is on it so it doesn't heat the metal up.

ahh the ashtray sensor. That sensor leans your fule if it detects light cigarets and it advances your timing when it detects menthol cigs...tee hee
