  • what temp of air should the A/C blow?

im thinking my A/C could be colder than it is getting. what temp should the AC blow if it is perfect working condition?

40-45 degrees F is at its coldest, but if outside is humid and super hot, it can be as high as 55-60.

I'm blowing about 71 according to my dad's digital thermometer. Any tips?

Greg, unless it was 110 degrees outside, here's the checklist I do-

does the compressor click on? is the compressor noisy when it's cycling? If yes to both, then I would add a small can of 134a+oil charge. If the compressor's not noisy, I would add 134a only. If the a/c is blowing room temperature but the compressor clicks on, then I'd add a larger can of refrigerant. The fitting for the low pressure hookup is on the large silver colored can on my car.

Admittedly, this is an unscientific solution to the problem, but it's what I would try before paying someone else to fix first...

you should be getting ATLEAST 20 degree temp diffrece. Other words the air blowing should be 20 degrees less then what the air temp is in the car. Pop the hood and put your hand on the suction acculater, if its cold and sweating its doing all it can.

Is there any kind of stuff that has leak sealer and oil in 1 can (if so, what viscosity oil?)? Also, how noisy is "noisy" Every car I have makes a noise when the a/c is on. It's sort of like a vaccuum cleaner noise. Is that normal?

                  joecool,

most of the cans that have 134a+oil also have the so-called leak sealer. I seriously doubt it makes much of a difference. I had an Oldsmobile with a slight visible leak from the compressor-- one small can of that per year kept it going another hot Texas summer.

By noisy, I mean in addition to the click of the compressor, you can easily hear the whirring of the compressor running over the engine. On my car [which runs correctly], I can identify the sound of the compressor running, but it is subordinate to the noise of the engine. Hope that helps. Keep in mind I'm not an a/c expert by any means. I have seen the cans with the oil charge quiet the noisy ones somewhat.

I agree with Bobby, if the a/c is cranked up all the way and the accumulator isn't really cold [the large silver canister], all is not well.
