  • Steering wheel options on 94 Firebird

My Firebird doesn't have any fancy options (radio buttons, if they were even offered, etc.) just the basic plastic steering wheel which is disintegrating. I want to replace it with a leather wrapped wheel, but I'm not sure which will fit. I want to keep my airbag (why buy another?), but I don't know if the leather steering wheels have the same fit for the airbag. Can anybody shed some light on this? Also, if the leather wheel is compatible with plastic wheel's airbag, which years would this apply to? And are the Formula/Trans Am steering wheels the same as Firebirds'? Thanks.

I have a factory Trans Am leather w/o radio knobs, but they were only available back on the early cars. It took me months to find one at a salvage yard.

Im in the process of putting in a Monza Personal wheel. I have the steering wheel and a 3rd gen horn. Still have a few components to order, but when Im done it will replicate a 3rd gen leather wrapped wheel. I wont have an air bag though.....

How did you bypass the air bag circuit?

I havent yet. I checked into it through HP Tuners, but came being told that the air bag is not controlled by the PCM. Im simply going to pull the air bag led's from the gauge cluster to keep from throwing lights on the dash. I have a spare T/A cluster that I am going to try this on when I do the swap. Like I said, Im in the process.... still need a few random parts to be able to start the swap.
