  • Make hood function

I got a 1997 camaro with the regular 2 fake scoops on the hood. What do i need to do to make it function and not get water in there and ruin everything.

    Re: Make hood function

do you mean function as a ram air, to deliver air to the intake? or function just as cooling?

ive heard that opening those vents up actually deters cooling for some reason.

im going to move this to general tech.

Should i even try to open them up. or is it just a waste of time and it will not help me? Would it be better to open it for the RAM air?

          Re: Make hood function

Definite waste of time because of aerodynamics. They're in the wrong location. Real scoops are either much higher above the hood, or at the base of the windshield, both relatively high pressure areas.

I just took the whole scoop part off the hood. I dont know if it helps but I think it would atleast cool the top of the motor a bit.

waste of time and you will not gain anything from it. Might actually be bad for the car in the long run with water and such getting in there and on your engine and electrical connections all the time.
