20 horses seems a bit on the high side. I'd guess somewhere between 5-10. The engine computer shuts down the AC above 4000 rpm, fwiw.

I believe it takes about 10% HP loss.

do you realize that when you go WOP, the compressor turns off and free wheels?

My g/f is just like your alls though. She's like "it blows my hair."

                Bah.

I dont know about power loss but I saw a test on Car and Driver or something of gas mileage of AC vs. Down windows. These guys ran around a race track in an expedition with the same amount of gas and i'm pretty sure the guy with the windows down ran out of gas first. Dont know why, shocked me.

                  Re: A/C and HP question???

because of the large drag caused by them being down. an AC compressor by design is not a big drain on your engine.

In one of the recent Motor Trends they were testing a new Z06, and the cabin got really hot because it was like on it's 7th run. So they had to turn the A/C on, and while it was on the Vette ran it's fastest time...... cool.

well like i said, having the AC on will racing or just going WOT, will not effect your engine's output because the module commands it off thus it free wheels. Thats cool it ran it's fastest time but it had nothing to with the AC compressor.
