There is no voltage regulator in the dash. It is on the alternator. And we know the guage is reading correctly because the lights are dimming and we lose power steering. The guage is fine. But I'm all out of ideas...so I really don't know what to say... :(

        • The wire that runs from the alt. to the fuse box in the engine, it's a probability.

          • i really didnt pay attention when i did my alt. but is our voltage regulator interal or external? i could of swore it was internal when i hooked up my alt.

If i were you kamaroz, id check all wires essential to the cars drivetrain and get a volt meter and circuit tester, you can pick them up for around 10-20 bucks, maybe less.

            • umm there has to be a V-rgulator in the dash i don't think it reads 14 @ ALOT of amps you have at WOT. there has to be something in the dash to step the power down, there's no way the wires to the back of the dash could carry that kind of current.

              just so im striaght

1 you lights dimwith you turn signalias on right? umm
bad/nicked rubed/almost grounded and los current from induction loss,
corrord wire somewere will cuase exses current draw

the bulbs in the turn signals are rated to high and drawing more current
lights are drawing more amps then they should, rated to high or bad conection, wire ect
could be same thing for one of the rear light too rating, wires

some were something is losing/taking too much power somewere. could be something simple like a lose wire, corded ground.

or a wire that rubbed to long and got wet coroded and is cuasing this loss

a voltage regulator, a sensor, circuit board is going bad and drawing me amps then it shoul. i would un hook you saound system when tring t pinpoint the problem.

              • i disconnect my system and the problems were still occuring. probably tommorow i will b finishing upgrading the grounds and checkin for loose/caroded(sp?) wires under the hood and near the pcm also im gonna try to look behind the dash to see if theres any wires loose back there.

                • my car when Im cruising down the road is just perfect until I even give it more gas than regular, then the lights go dim and the gauge goes to 8 volts. then I let off and it goes back up to 16-18 volts. I have a new alt and a new battery a year ago, any more ideas on this, ever experience the problem??? have fun with the original post, hope you guys can figure it out.

oh well, i THOUGHT i had the mother****er tightened down.

                            • I'm having problems with my electrical too, seems like everytime I read these forums I come up with the same problems a few days later...need to stop hitting this site :D

Anyways, doesn't the PCM control the regulator on our alts and the dash gauges? That could explain why the gauge display doesn't match the multimeter. Maybe the PCM reference is off or there is a voltage drop that it is seeing that isn't seen at the battery? Do you think a bad ground in the PCM harness would cause this?
