idea for a sticky

i was searching the forum and someone had a link to this site: http://www.carbibles.com/engineoil_bible.html ... i think that we should make this thread a sticky and that should help to eliminate all the questions people always have about what oil to use and whether or not to use oil additives. whats everyone elses thoughts on this? the site is also great for understanding suspension and brakes and all that stuff too.

Most of the information on there is ok, albeit a brash generalization which may or may not be relevant to our cars.

A couple of things on there are NOT correct, though.
-Some of the discussion of synthetics is not totally accurate.
-Also, what he is saying about using Mobil 1 0-40 as a flushing oil is flat out WRONG. That stuff is thicker at room temperature than most 10-30 oils out there, which totally defeats the purpose of using it to flush things out [something I think is largely unnecessary on a well maintained engine anyhow when switching].
-His reason not to switch from synthetic to mineral oil is not based on much fact I've ever read or experienced in reality. Weird and incorrect advice.

There is some good information there.

i dunno a whole lot about flushing and synthetics, but i think for the most part he offers some pretty good advice. one thing tho, he does mention the whole amsoil thing. Now, while i agree that amsoil may not BREAK DOWN for the 30k miles, at the end he says that basically, oil goes bad cuz it gets dirty. Thus, since amsoil like any other oil gets dirty, that means that changing the stuff every 5k miles or 3 months depending on conditions is still the most important thing. imo, that should be stressed but again, for the most part i think i'd be a worthwhile addition to the site, tho with a few disclaimers.
