I was wondering about deleting the balance shaft. WICKEDSIX said it wasnt required. All it does is act like a gyro and balance the engine so it doesnt vibrate as bad, I guess???
I was thinking about pulling it while I have the engine all torn down.

you would have to rebalance the motor. The crank, flexplate/flywheel, and balance shaft work together to balance the motor. removing the balance shaft means you need to rebalance the entire rotating assembly, or else it will not be trustworthy to run hard with.
2001 Arctic White Firebird<br />More mods than I\'m allowed to list!
Do a search on balance shaft. It's bee discussed many times. There really is no point in deleting it unless you're doing Double roller timing and there's no point in DRT without some heavy mods to your valve train. Theoretically you can pick up about 5hp from the delete. IMO it's not worth your time for the power you'd get.
This link is from back when I was cluless with what i wanted to do with my car. It had to do with removing the balance shaft. http://forum.camarov6.com/showthread.php?t=45543

MANY people have remove there's on stock car and have little to no differance other then the motor reving faster.
the shaft is about 10lb and thats 10lb rotating mass gone..... if you have the motor out of the car you have to tap an plug some back oil feed hole in order to remove it.... or you can just remove the gear and leave the shaft in there
i haven't done mine yet but i will soon

10lbs rotating mass = .1 reduction in 1/4 times
so in order to do this you HAVE to remove the motor from the car?
Can you elaborate on the back oil feed hole? thanks
