  • remove MAF screen

    Hi every one.

I have a 2001 v6 camaro with a K&N fuel injection performance kit. I was thinking of removing the MAF screen this weekend. As I was reading a long the form a lots of you guys say "Yes" to remove the MAF screen and other say "no." According to my research I know you could remove the screen on a 99 and up model camaro, but not an 98 and older model. My question is. is it worth removing the MAF screen and would I get HP gain out of it or would it give me problem in the long run?

    Re: remove MAF screen

you misinterpreted that. you can remove the maf screen on any year, but ive heard its only worth it on 99+. Still, im a bit skeptical.

      Re: remove MAF screen

in the long run you could have huge debris enter your engine
its job is to make the air less turbulent so the maf can read it better
is it worth removing? not hardly, but I did it on mine, and lost it (it was destroyed anyways because of removal)

Take it out, you won't notice a gain but you might see it on a dyno sheet or a timeslip. No huge debris will make it all the way to the intake; I run no MAF and no air filter at the track.

some K&Ns dont fill up the whole intake box (like mine)
its highly possible some kind of debris could get in there
Not like I care or anything

Anything that's light enough to get up there would be burnt up in the combustion process.

              Re: remove MAF screen

will it throw the maf off just a little bit thats unnoticeable? maybe
make it a little lean because of extra unmetered air, due to uncalibrated maf
(this might be a good thing though)

If I remove MAF screen would I get any warning light on the dash board?

Sorry if I'm hard headed, but I just want to make shore that I'm do the right thing by removing maf screen. I have a K&N intake system. If you guy want to see what type of intake system I have see the attach file with this reply. I think is going to be alright because of the intake it will prevent any huge debris to get in the motor.

It will not hurt anything to remove it. If it causes for a ruff idle just reinstall it. If it changes running conditions for the better, or unnoticeable just leave it out.

I sued to pens. Pulled the snap ring out... then on the outer edge, use the pens to go in the holes and pulle the screen out. I do it on the edges so if I do bend some fins, they are likely covered by the snap ring if I decide to put it back in.

I had mine off forever and it works perfectly fine.

Do you notice any HP gain by doing this or does your engine running cooler?
