as far as im awair, you will have to buy a whole new fuel pump module. call your local dealer and ask the parts department if you can just purchase that sending unit.

i talked to my friend who is a mechanic, and he says it isnt the sending unit, he said it is some connector or something like that, he says he gets it all of the time
if you could get any more information about this i would be really interested. my gas gauge quit working too. and a shop said if they had to install a new fuel pump module the total job would cost 800. i'm not paying that for a damn gauge, if this connection is a common problem, maybe i can fix it myself.
i'm in the same boat, i have an aftermarket fuel pump in right now (walbro 255lph) all the connections are fine, but my gas gauge sits past the full mark. i have an access panel in my trunk to get to the gas tank, so it's alot easier to fix in my case ;)

yeah. let me word this better. if you buy a whole new sending unit, it comes with the pump, level sensor, etc. but you can possibly buy just the fuel level sensor. call your local dealer and ask.
That makes sense but it still kinda leaves a question: what do I ask the dealer for? The fuel pump w/sending unit replacement number? If I knew, I could just shoot an email to someone at GMParts.com and get this in the works. I'm dreading this for sure but I've been driving by the odometer for too long. Someone could syphon some of my gas or I could add some new mod that sucks up the gas and I'd find myself going for a walk.

you just ask for the fuel lever sensor. that will be the cheapest route. if you want to spend the money, ask for the fuel sending unit so you can get a new fuel pump also since your already digging into your fuel tank.
Should I consider a fuel pump upgrade since I've got to go through all this or is the stock replacement fine unless adding a supercharger or the like? Thanks for the help, by the way. I've wanted to get this fixed for awhile. Long trips make me nervous.

apparently they are only available for 98+. but yes that is the right number.
Yeah, that's what the gmpartsdirect.com guy told me, too. I've got one on the way. Just not sure I wanna cut open the back deck. I might change my mind once I start pulling stuff loose underneath. Heh
