  • My car is FAT!

Ugh..lol I got my car smogged today. It passed. But I noticed that my "Test Weight" was.....3625 pounds! I'm not positive if this is the weight with the technician in my car or out though. Still that seems a little heavy. My car has nothing heavy in it and in fact just yesterday I reduced my car's weight by 60 pounds by taking out some unecessary stuff as well as my jack and spare. Anyone have any idea why it was so heavy? My car is a 97 Camaro M5 with T-tops btw with stock chrome 5 star 16" rims and my only mods are Flowmaster muffler with dual exhaust and an SLP CAI.

dry weight of our cars are 3480 lbs. 5 quarts of oil, a few gallons of gas and a couple candy wrapers could get you up that high.

i think i was 3480 in the chevrolet car book, that big thick thing that gives specs on every make and model of chevrolet.

but yes, i would have to say our cars are probably the heaviest v6 sportscar on the road.

I just changed my oil and in my manual is said our cars oil change and filter capacity is 4.5 quarts. Hope you aren't putting in 5 it might be too much!

I had my car weighed a couple weeks ago. Had a full tank of gas, and 155 pound driver, total weight came to 3640. The car is loaded, minus T-Tops and Leather. Power everything. So subtract 155 for me, brings the weight down to 3485. Then subtract for fuel (16.8 gallons x 6 pounds per gallon) roughly 101 pounds. That brings it down to 3384. Buuut, since we can't drive on empty, lets assume we usually have a half tank, so well call it 50 pounds of fuel. Typical driving weight without driver for a V6 Fbody with alot of power accessories should be around 3434. There ya go.

Speaking of weight reduction... I'm trying to lower my weight...

but I don't know what to do, really.

I have taken out the jack and spare tire, but that's it. I don't really want to get into the back seats and all, bceause I use them. So what can I do that isn't noticable but will reduce the weight?

^there are a lot of parts you can simlpy upgrade to lighter and stronger ones..James (12secondV6) has done a lot of this..i have also done a lot of things you cant see..check out "weight reduction" on my site..for a good race weight id say you really dont want the car much over 3300lbs (depending on your goals of course too)..and take into consideration that race weight is calculated with the driver in the car

I was talking to a friend a few weeks ago and weight reduction came up. he said that his V6 Eclipse comes in around 3800  I would have guessed 2800 maybe but not that much.
