  • Flushing power steering fluid???

I was getting my oil changed last week and the mechanic told me that my power steering fluid needed to be flushed and refilled. He said it should be done at 10K, 30K and 50K.

Is this true? I have never heard of flushing power steering fluid as part of regular maintainence.

He wanted $80 . Was he pulling my leg for the extra $$$?

    Thx.

$80 is a soooo big rip off do it your self.
Take the return line the the resivor off and put it to a bucket to catch the fluid.
Start you car for like 2-3 seconds(you p/s pump moves about 3gpm + a minute) and it will spary all the fluid out in a few seconds.
Fill up the p/s all the way I use a mix of fuel oil and ATF (flush time) and start it for a few seconds to empty all that fluid out.
Flush with just fluid once more.
Reconnect the line and add fluid.
It takes 20 minutes at most.

I think Lubeguard has a power steering flushing fluid,I personnally would use a flush by them. I believe oil pan is right in that 80$ is a steep price. After the flush you might want to look into the Lubeguard p.s. additive,it converts reg. p.s. fluid to Honda fluid ,which is said to be superior to all others. No, I'm not a Lubegard distributor or rep. ,but I trust their LXE technology. So does GM,Ford, Honda,Saab,& other car manufaturers, who openly recomend alot of their additives. If this is not convincing enough, every trans rebuilding shop I've been to,& Ivy Tech.U.'s auto shop puts thier additives in the trans & p.s. pumps they rebuild.
