upon seeing my less than overwhelming gas mileage what are some mods that i can do to raise my gas mileage, while retaining or raising my overall power. i figure probably cold air, i already have a flowmaster, i think i still have a stock cat tho. i think its had a pretty recent tuneup. idk, i dont want to spend a whole lot of money, would 91 octane help enough for the extra cost? would that msd dis4 help with mileage? i think i want to do plugs and wires too soon. i have a 98 firebird A4 with 136k

Re: gas mileage
do you drive city mostly? how often do you drive highway?
cold air will help, so should flows but probably not as much?
91 octane probably wont be worth the extra cost, but you did
say you have it tuned. did you tell texas speed & perfor.
that you would be using 91?

Re: gas mileage
What is your mileage now?
I usually get about 21 city/30 highway.
Change air filter, pcv valve, maybe o2 sensors if your mileage is really out of whack. The economics of using high octane gas doesn't work-- you don't gain enough mileage [unless your car is specifically set up to run on it]. Air up your tires a few psi over the door sticker #.

Re: gas mileage
Try keeping your foot out of the throttle...
For example, a lot of roads that I drive on have a posted limit of 45 mph. My A4 with 3.08 rear end shifts to 4th at 50 MPH, and will hold 4th down to just over 40 MPH. So I accelerate up to 50, get the 4th gear shift and lockup, then relax back to 45. If I don't do this and stay at 45 MPH 4th gear shift will not happen very quickly and sometimes not at all.
My car has 102,000 Miles and I get 25 MPG in the city. Please note that this is not stop and go every city block, but on routes as above.

Re: gas mileage
Also, Change all your oils to synthetic. Power steering, transmission, engine, and rear end. These oils will lower the amount of friction in all the components, lower temperatures, give you more power (just a bit though), and also decrease wear.

Re: gas mileage
no i dont have a tune, i think the dealer gave it a tuneup before selling. i just put 89 in today and we'll see how that goes, i'll try to stay off the pedal a little, i'm taking it in tomorrow because like 2 or 3 of my wheels are clunking over bumps, and i dont like the sound of that, i have a feeling they more or less sold me a lemon, oh well, it'll be right in the end

Re: gas mileage
21/30 doesn't sound too bad I run about the same now that I have my car running clean and well, and I get that off 90 oc.
Mine being a 95 3.4 I think GM said 28 hiway on it from the factory, so I'm right about there.1995 Camaro 3.4 A4

CAI,IAT Relocate

Re: gas mileage
I just put on a k&n fipk and even after a few days I already see a slight increase in gas mileage. I was getting about 18 mpg (only city) and after having the fipk it seems that my automatic shifts gears sooner, before the rpms get so high.
