  • 3.4L and 3.4L doch

    Ok idk if this is the right forum for this but i have a question... My cousin just bought a 97 Monte Carlo z34 and i know the whole 3.4 delema but could someone tell me how these motors are diffrent...Because I notice his car has Much More Power and is alot Faster then My 3.4 Camaro.. it has a 3.4L doch and i want to know what is the Diffrence in these motors.

    it has 2 overhead cams instead of one single pushrod cam .

            actually my car only has 54,000 miles on it and a flowmaster 80 series...its got alot done to it appearence wise so i dont really go fast in it i just noticed his seemed to have more power....after hearing all the people saying its a waste of time modding a 3.4 i just gave up and said what the heck..ill go for looks

              The 3.4 DOHC motor was designed to make 275 HP and was detuned to 200-215 because GM didn't have a FWD trans at the time that could take that much power. They can rev up to 7k RPM but were programmed to shift at only 6250. Maintenance is key, they're belt-driven cams and it is labor-intensive (and expensive) to replace these, hope you don't ever break one because you can bend the valves.
